Whose idea was it to bring out DVR and Social Networking around the same time? As I checked my Facebook timeline, which seems to be as regular a daily occurrence as eating or sleeping these days, numerous people spilled the beans on Sons of Anarchy. Opie’s dead. Come on, really? You can’t wait even an hour to post something about a TV show. Ever heard of a spoiler alert? I, along with most people these days, enjoy the fact that I don’t have to sit through commercials and can watch something on DVR after it airs. Look I’m cool with sports posts, that’s actually happening live. These shows have been filmed months in advance, and are not occurring with people in attendance like a sporting event. Therefore I propose a new rule for all in the Land of Make Believe (Facebook, Twitter, etc…); Three Day moratorium on posts with specifics about television shows. Anything after three days is fair game. If your thumbs are chomping at the bit to start tapping that mini screen on your cell phone keep the posts general. “Sons of Anarchy was shocking tonight” is accepted. “Opie is dead,” obviously, is unacceptable. I said sports are ok, but there is a caveat. If the event occurs in a different time zone and is not televised in the local time zone until later in the day, you cannot reveal the results. This is especially important for the Olympics. This goes for you too news outlets. I knew the results of everything that happened in the London Olympics about 5 hours before NBC aired it, what kind of bullsh*t is that? From henceforth the 3 day moratorium on specifics of a TV show is in effect. Get it? Got it? Good!
So, Opie’s dead huh? Good. Screw him and his constant whining. “My wife was killed. My father was killed. I can’t seem to get my beard trimmer to work.” Boo-hoo! Get over it, man. By the way, I think that guy who smacked him in the back of the head with the pipe should definitely get a tryout with the New York Muts, they can really use a power hitting right hander. On the real though, it was a stand up thing to do to sacrifice his life for his brothers, but I’m not losing any sleep over his death. Another question, has anyone perfected the one-to-two season arch on a well established good show better than Jimmy Smits? First The West Wing, then Dexter, now Sons of Anarchy, he has mastered the art of short arch prowess. And let’s not forget Cane and Outlaw. Oh wait those two starred him and were cancelled before they could get to a second season? Let’s forget those then. But seriously his post NYPD Blue career is similar to Tony Soprano’s love life, ya know?...with the side chicks. Ladies, I know he’s a heart throb, but this man obviously has commitment issues. Nice to see Hill from Oz regain the use of his legs, so inspirational. Last thought on Sons of Anarchy…I have watched since the show’s inception and will continue to watch it until it goes off the air. I thoroughly enjoy this show, but is there any more unrealistic show out there? This is a biker gang that totes Irish Republican Army’s guns and wars with the Black and Latino gangs in California. The underlying theme is that they can last with dwindling numbers because they are smarter and more loyal than the others. Yet they constantly get in shoot outs in public places (where the f*ck are the police? (1:25 mark)) and nobody seems to ever get shot. As a matter of fact, the only time a member of the Sons seems to get shot is by another one of their members. Now that’s the type of loyalty that keeps them above the water. Also, in reference to the "Opie’s Dead" episode, correctional officers do not carry guns inside prison walls, that’s just stupid. Anyway, stop Facebooking the specifics about a show for a few days and even though Sons is great, it’s very unrealistic. If you don’t agree with me, that’s ok because I’m just “riding through this world...all alone.” Afternoon Delight 09/25/12 reference: It looks like the regular refs will be back soon. I'm pretty excited for the first time they screw up and the media makes excuses that they are just "rusty." It's not rust, it is what it is.
