Cup O' Fiz 10/05/13: The Federal Employee Fox News Rant Edition

Disclaimer; Rant Alert:  This is a rant on behalf of federal employees; unofficially. (Rant Alert means please overlook the following for grammatical or spelling errors. Oh yeah, the profanity too):

Many who contribute to Fox News have chosen to call this a government Slim down, as opposed to a government Shutdown.  As a federal employee I am appalled.

Cup O' Fiz 10/01/13: How Did We Get Here?

I see numerous articles and posts on social media about the government shutdown placing blame here and there, but most of it is extremely biased.  My opinion may ooze out of this, but I will attempt to give objective facts and a brief timeline about how we got where we are. Class is in session:

I have long held the stance that I don't care about performance enhancing drugs;  I just don't. I don't view it as "cheating" for many reasons, but more than anything, where do you draw the line?  Why is this illegal and that legal?  The amount of supplements the "clean" athletes take would probably bankrupt the average Joe. That said, I present a timeline of tweets from my favorite Astrophysicist after the recent MLB suspensions were handed down. Yeah, I'm that much of a dork that I have a favorite Astrophysicist.  Neil Degrasse Tyson is "that dude."

Straight from Wikipedia so you know who this guy is:

Neil deGrasse Tyson (/ˈniːəl dəˈɡræs ˈtaɪsən/ born October 5, 1958) is an American astrophysicist and science communicator. He is currently the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space and a research associate in the department of astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History.

Weapons of Minor Destruction II

Back in December, in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, I promised a follow up piece to my Weapons of Minor Destruction article from three years ago.  With the gun control background check bill being nixed in the Senate yesterday and proper time to reflect on the disaster in Connecticut, now is as good a time as ever.  Like always, this is one man's opinion, albeit an open minded man.  I am always willing and even encourage to hear from anyone else.  In this day in time everyone wants to talk and nobody wants to listen, so I implore you to please voice your opinion.  Sparking debate is the first step in improving society.

Exit Sandman

"It's not too easy when you come to a decision like this," Mariano Rivera said, "After this year, I will be retired. ... Now you're hearing it from me. It's official now..... but I would love to say that it has been a privilege and honor to wear the pinstriped uniform that I have proudly worn for so many years in good times, great times. It has been wonderful…..Now is the time. I have given everything and the time is almost ending. The thing that I have, the little gas I have left is everything for this year. After that, I'll empty everything. There's nothing left. I did everything and I'm proud of it. That's why it's time."

I watched the movie Lincoln on New Years night, and it was inspiring.  If you are not familiar, it is a movie based on Abraham Lincoln working towards getting the thirteenth amendment of the United States Constitution passed.  That amendment says the following:

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

A few thoughts came to me as I watched…
