Open Letter to the (Rational) Trump Supporter

Dear (Rational) Trump Supporter,

First and foremost, congratulations. For the fifth time in history, the electoral college Trumped (pun intended) the popular vote and your candidate has become the president-elect of the United States. For you, I know this is a triumphant day to beat the democrats and especially to beat the woman that you think is oh so evil.

I know you can't fully understand those of us that are literally frightened by the outcome of the election because you were rooting so hard for your candidate and hated Hilary Clinton so much. I mean, how dare she use her email in an unprofessional manner, none of us ever do that.  And I can't believe she shot those people in Bengazi in cold blood, in the back no less. But I digress...

Of course I am mature enough to realize that not everyone will agree with my vision for this country, but does he really represent yours? Did you truly vote for him, or against Hilary? Do you really think illegal immigration is one of the worst issues going on in this country? Do you really think a wall is going to solve that issue? If you do, I just want you to remember El Chapo doesn't give a shit about a wall...when the wall goes high, he goes low, real low...under ground. Also, if our country is so bad, then why are people trying to get in it? I mean the idea of "Making America Great" is something I can get in line with. But the word "Again"? That implies we are to go backwards to a better time. When exactly would that be? Is it back to 2001 when the Twin Towers were destroyed? Or maybe it was the Cold War era when students were instructed to climb under their desks in case of nuclear attack? Maybe it was during the Civil Rights Era when blacks were routinely hanged? Or even further to slavery? What era exactly would you like to go back to? I for one would rather move forward than back.

Now that I have your attention I want to ask you something that every one of us non-Trump voters constantly think about; Is Donald Trump a bigot? Bigotry is a topic that I discuss and think of quite often in my life and I've been mulling this over and over. The answer I came up with: "I don't know." However, one thing I do know is he does not seem to have a problem standing with those who are bigots. He doesn't seem to have a problem accepting their support, even using inflammatory language that gives credence to their cause. This is very dangerous for a man that will hold the highest office in the land. We can never know what is truly in someone's heart, but we do know what someone's public persona is and Mr. Trump does very little to quell the belief that hatred is his modus operandi. If that's the case, I just wonder how you can stand next to him?

Can I tell you what my biggest concern of this Donald Trump victory is? The fact that his victory validates the hate that many of his supporters have. Remember, you're the rational Trump supporter so I'm not talking about you, so please, please hear me out. As much as many of us think Mr. Trump is a joke, the part that scares us the most is some of the people that are empowered by this Trump win. The anger and hate that many of his followers feel has been justfied by this triumph. You're the rational supporter so please step outside of your distaste for democrats and try to see this from an impartial view. This letter is littered with just a few examples of this hatred, please take a look. Democrat, Republican, Conservative, Liberal, you can't think that is right. And if you are not disturbed by those instances, this letter is not meant for you. This is meant for the rational Trump supporter. If our worst fears begin to occur I plead with you, please stand for those who are facing the hatred and furor. Do not accept this type of behavior. If you are a fan of Trump's agenda but not the hate, we need you to be willing to stand up to that hate right along with us.

And if you don't? If you choose to accept or participate in the anger and hatred then remember this one fact. Hilary Clinton won the popular vote. We outnumber you! Don't even fuckin' try it!
